Sharon has been an active member of the Labor Party for
over fifteen years and is currently the President of the Boonah/Kalbar branch
of the ALP and for many years was the secretary of the Fortitude Valley
and Districts branch of the ALP. During this time she represented the branch as
a FEC, SEC and MEC delegate and worked on numerous election campaigns at local,
state and federal levels. Currently Sharon
is an elected State Conference delegate.
Sharon worked for many years in the Queensland Public
Service and was an active union member with the QPSU serving as a union
delegate and elected union council member.
Sharon was a recipient of the Anna Stewart scholarship and
worked for the QPSU (now Together Union) for several years as an industrial
officer.
She is an active leader in
her community and is the President and co-founder of Boonah Organisation for a
Sustainable Shire (BOSS). BOSS has developed as one of the lead local
environmental and sustainability groups working closely with Scenic Rim
Regional Council and other levels of government and community organisations.
BOSS is also the recipient of federal funding and is currently working with the
local indigenous community to develop an educational bush tucker precinct via Caring for Our Country funding.
In addition Sharon is a member and
board member of several state based committees and boards, including the
Indigenous Lawyers Association of Queensland (ILAQ) and SWELL Sculpture
Festival.
Most recently Sharon worked with Nyst
Lawyers (founders of the Griffith University Innocence Project) as their
Marketing and Public Relations Manager where she was heavily involved in
miscarriage of justice issues such as the Griffith University Innocence
Project. Sharon also works closely with Griffith University in developing past, present
and future alumni relationships and opportunities.
Sharon was born in Southport, attended Southport High and
graduated from her Bachelor of Arts degree from Griffith University.
After university she moved to Melbourne
where she gaining employment at the Melbourne College of Printing and Graphic
Arts, where she represented her union on the TAFE council and became a Trades
Hall delegate.
Sharon went on to work professionally in the arts
predominately in theatre administration and arts policy development where she
was a member of such organisations as Multicultural Arts Victoria. After
residing in Melbourne for several years, Sharon spent time overseas and then returned to Queensland where she
obtained a Post Graduate in Industrial Relations from QUT.
Currently Sharon
lives on three and half acres at Mt French just outside Boonah with her partner
Max, her stepson and daughter reside in Brisbane.
Sharon and Max grow most of their own fruit, vegies and herbs.
