Wright is a relatively new seat gazetted on 15 December 2009 and prompted by Queensland's population growth.
Based in south east Queensland, to the south and west of Brisbane, it includes the centres of Aratula, Beaudesert, Beechmont, Boonah, Canungra, Forest Hill, Gatton, Harrisville, Helidon, Hillview, Jimboomba, Laidley, North Ipswich, Rathdowney, Springbrook and Tamborine, and parts of Mudgeeraba and Nerang.
It stretches from the western Gold Coast through the remnant rural areas between Logan City and the NSW border, through the Scenic Rim region and around to include the Lockyer Valley west of Ipswich.
The electorate is named after Judith Wright (1915–2000) who made a significant contribution to Australia as a social and environmental activist, and poet. She was a resident of Queensland for over 30 years, 20 of which were spent at Mt Tamborine, which is located within the boundaries of this division.
Wright covers an area of approximately 7,589 square kilometres with 55 polling booths.
